William “Bill” M. Vollbrecht, Jr, age 65, of Morgan, died Saturday, May 30, 2020 at St. Cloud Hospital. A Private Family and Friends Memorial Mass Service will be Friday, June 5, 2020, from St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan with burial to follow at a later date. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family is only allowed a limited number in attendance.

Arrangements are with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Morgan. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com .

Bill was born on March 9, 1955 (his father’s birthday) to William and Arliss Vollbrecht. He is survived by his mother; siblings Michael, Kimberlee, Joseph, Thomas, and Robert; sisters-in-law Elisabeth Kustera Vollbrecht, Patricia Lipnicky, and Mara Thompson; 6 nieces, 8 nephews, two great-nephews and one great-niece.

Bill meant, and was, many things to many people—a son, a grandson, a nephew, a big brother, a cousin, a brother-in-law, an uncle and a godfather. He was a parishioner at St. Michael’s Church in Morgan, serving at various times as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and a member of the choir. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the local Lions Club, where he also served as President.

But Bill was more than just who he was related to or what organizations he joined. Bill was an avid reader and loved music, having been the sound and lighting man for a bluegrass/country rock band during his college years (and even playing bass on All Along the Watchtower). He loved going to concerts. Bill also enjoyed sports, both participating and watching—although he was famous in his family for falling asleep while watching the Vikings.

Most of all, Bill loved his family. He spent his last years living with and taking care of his mother, enabling her to remain in her home as long as possible. His siblings and family owed him, and gave him, thanks, love and admiration for his doing so.

To quote a lyric from one of his favorite bands: “Going home, going home, by the waterside I will rest my bones, Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.” He will truly be missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the We Care Project, Box 84 Morgan, MN 56266 or a Charity of your choice.

Blessed be his memory.
