Melvin Herman Polzin, the son of Herman and Freida (Arndt) Polzin, was born March 11, 1929 in Searles, Minnesota. He attended Springfield County school and embarked on a remarkable journey throughout his life.

On July 16, 1958, Melvin married Ann Marie Vogel and had a country wedding in rural Springfield, MN. They made their home in Evan, MN after their marriage. The family then moved to Vesta, MN in 1970 until 1980 when the family moved to Estelline, SD. They moved back to Minnesota and retired in Belview, MN. Melvin moved to Belview Nursing Home on October 13, 2022 until his passing.

Melvin's career spanned over four decades as a self-employed truck driver. He dedicated himself to his profession with unwavering commitment until his well-deserved retirement in 1999. His dedication and work ethic were second to none, making him a respected figure in the trucking industry. Melvin also farmed for many years in South Dakota and Minnesota. In addition to his successful career, Melvin's life was defined by his love for family and community. He found joy spending time with his loved ones and creating lasting memories together. Melvin was a true family man who cherished every moment shared with his children and grandchildren.

Melvin served our country with honor and courage as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. His military service played an integral role in shaping him into the compassionate and resilient individual he became. After serving valiantly, Melvin received an honorable discharge from the army. Melvin also held membership in Estelline American Legion Post 184.

Outside of work and family life, Melvin had several hobbies and interests that brought him great pleasure. He possessed a natural talent for waterfowl hunting and enjoyed the thrill of shooting clay targets. Melvin found solace in being outdoors, appreciating nature's beauty surrounding him. Alongside these pursuits, he actively participated in Grace Lutheran Church, where he found spiritual comfort and community support.

Melvin is survived by his children; Debra Freemire of Lakefield, MN; Judy (Richard) Skoblik of Belview, MN; Jerry (Kris) Polzin of Marshall, MN; Lori (Brian) Allex of Redwood Falls, MN; and Scott (Marsha) Polzin of Colton, SD. Additionally, he leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who will forever cherish their memories with him. Melvin's nieces and nephews also hold a special place in their hearts for their beloved uncle.

During this difficult time of loss, Melvin leaves behind a multitude of family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann Polzin, his daughter Pam Winkleman, his grandson Jacob Allex, his brothers Albert, Walter, Raymond, and sister Laura "Sally" Borchert. Although gone from this earthly realm, Melvin's spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Blessed be his memory.
