Joan Dahmes, of Clements, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, with her daughter at her side at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She attained the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 27 days. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the New Avon Salem Cemetery in rural Wabasso. A visitation will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held just prior to her service, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, 23, 2024 at the church.

Joan Arlene Dahmes was born on September 19, 1933 in rural Redwood County to Chester and Dorothy (DeGraff) Tisue. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1951. She was involved in chorus, pep club, student council, and cheerleading. She later attended Lamberton Teachers Training and Mankato State and graduated in 1952. Joan worked 30 years in education. The first school she taught at was District 7 by Wabasso, MN. Through her teaching years she also taught at the Clements Public School, Echo Public School, and Springfield Public School. On August 11, 1957, she married Vilo Dahmes at the Delhi Presbyterian church. They made their home on the Dahmes family farm near Clements, MN. To this marriage was 4 children, one daughter and 3 sons.
Through the years she was a 4-H leader and taught adult education. She had many interests including gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, genealogy, refinishing furniture, exhibiting at the county fair for many years, and most of all, painting. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed the many family gatherings and celebrations at the family farm they lived on. The most important things to Joan were her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joan and Vilo did almost everything together. Her faith was an important part of her life. Joan was a member of the New Avon Salem Church near Wabasso, MN until closing in 1996. She then attended the United Methodist Church of Redwood Falls, MN.
Joan and Vilo enjoyed playing Mr. and Mrs. Claus for many years with grandkids helping as their elves. She enjoyed traveling to art shows with Vilo by her side. Joan was a member of Artists of MN and Tatanka Arts. Joan and Vilo enjoyed traveling with friends for many years and came back with many treasures for the old century farmhouse they had restored as the antique house for entertaining friends and relatives. She enjoyed keeping up with her flower beds and the indoor houseplants.
Joan is survived by her children, Vicky Dahmes of Clements, Bradley and wife, Lisa Dahmes of Hawick, Scott and wife, Crystal Dahmes of Springfield, and Forrest of Hawick. Grandchildren, Amanda (Troy) Goblish, Brittany (Rob) Krueger, Brandon (Jenika) Olson, Bailey Nelson, Nicholas Dahmes, Ben Dahmes, Mark (Jenna) Dahmes, Lindsey (Jose) Zandonadi, Jordan Dahmes and fiancé Kylie, Brooke Dahmes, and Rebecca Dahmes and fiancé Gabe, Christopher (Megan) Dahmes and Alexandra (Andrew) Lien.
Great-Grandchildren Scarlett, Otto, Owen, Briggs, Thomas, Olivia, Lillian, Cameron, Camilla, Everly, Lincoln, Max, Gabby, Rosella, Charlotte and Adeline.
Further Surviving are her-in-laws Lola Dahmes of Redwood Falls and Doris Dahmes of Buffalo Lake, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Vilo, parents Dorothy and Chester Tisue, Father, and Mother -in- law Otto and Hilda (Beran) Dahmes, brother Jim Tisue, and grandson Joshua Dahmes, and nieces and nephews.
Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May the Lord bless her memory.
