Florence Mae Hrdlicka Dunlevy was born on December 21, 1919, in Armour, South Dakota to Kathryn and Charles Hrdlicka. After graduating from Delmont High School in 1937, she worked in Casper and Cheyenne, Wyoming for a year before moving to Redwood Falls when she was 20 years old. There she worked in the bakery for Ernie Gallea and then met and married John Dunlevy on January 22, 1942, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
John and Florence lived on the homestead southwest of Redwood Falls and farmed many acres. Within a ten-year span, they had five children, Charles (Georgia and later Judy), Catherine (Tom), Daniel (Judy), Mary (Jim) and Margaret (Steven). When her children were all in school, Florence returned to work full-time at the bakery, where she continued to work until 1968 when she left to work at Tersteegs where she stayed until 1974.
Through many of the years on the farm, Florence also proudly learned how to operate all the farm equipment and joined John with the plowing, planting and combining.
In 1979, John and Florence sold the farm and moved into a new house in Redwood Falls. In their retirement, they enjoyed a number of driving trips around the U.S. and Florence spent many hours crocheting and knitting beautiful pieces for family and friends. Florence was also an active member of St. Catherine’s Church where she served funerals, delivered Meals-on-Wheels, folded many bulletins, and was part of a weekly prayer circle. John suffered a stroke in 1993 and died in 2001. Florence continued to live in her own home until 2023 when at age 103 she finally had to move to an assisted living in St. Paul where she stayed until her death on January 10, 2026.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, John, her son, Charles, her daughter-in-law, Georgia, her son-in-law, Tom, and her daughter, Mary.
She is survived by her daughter in-law; Judy, her daughter; Catherine, her son; Daniel and his wife, Judy, her son in-law, Jim, and her daughter; Margaret and her husband, Steven. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 11great-grandchildren.
May she rest in peace.
