Evelyn was born on June 19, 1939 to Joseph and Anna (Novak) Zeman. She grew up on a farm in rural Franklin, later moving to rural Morton and then to town in Morton. Evelyn received all her sacraments at St John's Catholic Church in Morton. She attended and graduated from Morton Public school in 1957.
On August 23,1958 Evelyn was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald George Gewerth. Together they built a home of love in Morton where they raised their children Michael and Shirley.
Evelyn was a proud and happy homemaker, mother and wife. She loved baking and cooking. Over the years Evelyn was a daycare provider; loving the children she cared for as her own. She was a waitress at the cafe in Morton and later became employed at what is currently Daktronics in Redwood Falls.
Above all the things Evelyn did, she treasured her family and friends. She loved to spend time on her phone checking in with everyone.
In 2019 Evelyn left her home and became a resident at Wooddale nursing home in Redwood Falls and when this facility closed, she moved to River Valley Health and Rehab. While residing there, Evelyn continued to enjoy her time on the phone and loved putting puzzles together and bingo. Evelyn found happiness in visiting her the staff and sharing treats with them. Staff became her extended family.
Evelyn is survived by her children Michael and Shirley, grandchildren Jeremy(Nicole), Anna, Lacey, Cole (Kaitlyn), great grandchildren Kaelyn (Joshua), Josephine, Abigail, Wyatt, Gavin, Keefer, Keeran, numerous foster children, great-great-granddaughter Emersynn, and longtime special friend Leo Surprenant.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, sisters Lillian and Elsie and brother Joe, and her parents as well as many nieces, nephews, in laws and other close family members and friends.
A special thank you to River Valley Health and Rehab and Redwood Area Hospice for being an extended family to Evelyn and her family and friends.
Blessed be her memory
