Dorothy Mae Jacobsen

Dorothy M. Jacobsen, age 92, of Springfield, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, MN. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield, with burial to follow in the Brookville Dannebod Cemetery in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.

Dorothy Mae Jacobsen was born on May 20th, 1933, in a farmhouse in rural Sleepy Eye, MN to Francis and Catherine (Erickson) Olsen. She attended Country School District 58 and graduated in 1951.

In 1952, she married Rodney Jacobsen and together they moved to their farm site in Brookville Township where they started a family. She worked as a farm wife raising three children and drove the school bus for Springfield Public Schools.

She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN, where she sang in the choir. She also served as the activities director at St. John’s Nursing Home and owned a 2nd-hand store in downtown Springfield.

After retiring, she and her husband Rodney traveled extensively through Europe, Hawaii, Central America, and the U.S. They spent many winters in Arizona and often visited their son David in Colorado along the way.

Dorothy loved making silk flower arrangements in her free time and was affectionately known as “The flower lady” in Springfield. She also enjoyed bowling, with a personal best score of 266.

She is survived by her daughter, Jude Baker of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Brian (Shelby) Baker of Evanston, IL, and Caryn Baker of Seattle, WA.; nephews Dean (Kathy) Hansen, Chuck (Barb) Hansen, Phillip (Christie) Hansen; and niece Eunice (Mark) Olson. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan, husband Rodney, son David, brother-in-law Odin, and sister Darlene.
