Doris Marie Lemcke was born to George and Lena (Garman) Lemcke on July 22, 1939 at home in Vesta. Doris grew up in the Vesta and Redwood Falls areas and graduated from Redwood Falls High School. Doris married Harlan “Swanee” Schwantes on May 12, 1957 in Vesta. They raised 2 children, Marilyn and Steve. Doris owned and operated the Mint Café in Redwood Falls and retired in 1980.
Doris was an active member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Redwood Falls, where she attended services and Bible studies. Church was her life, even a snowstorm wouldn’t stop her from coming. She was also a member of Ladies Society. Over the years she helped grade papers for the school and helped in the office with small tasks to help the secretaries. Doris was known to walk at St. John school’s gymnasium in the mornings and greeting all the little ones in the hallways.
Doris never missed a Memorial Day to put flowers out on the family members graves at area cemeteries. Doris loved spending time with her family as much as she could. She loved attending family reunions. Doris will be missed by all who knew her smile.
Doris is survived by her children-Marilyn (Bob) and Steve (Julie), grandchildren-Shane (Mel), Tory, Schanon (Todd), Jaytee, Jordan (Allyce), Jessica (Sam), Zackery (Danielle), great-grandchildren-Rylee, Bryer, Brecklyn, Bristyn, Tayte, Payton, Caden, Brayden, Jayden, Hannah and Eli. She is also survived by 4 brothers, 1 brother-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harlan “Swanee”, 4 brothers, 1 sister and 6 sisters-in-law.
Blessed be her memory.
