Daryl Duane Nemitz

December 30, 1930 — May 30, 2026

Daryl Nemitz entered eternal glory on May 30, 2026, surrounded by his family at CentraCare - Redwood Falls Hospital. Daryl was born on December 30, 1928, to William and Ann (Bryan) in rural Morton. He was 97 years old.

Daryl attended country school in Middlecreek, Fairfax and Bechyn. In 1945 he moved with his family to Minneapolis where he worked at Land O’ Lakes and Van Duren Harrington Co. In February 1946 he enlisted in the United States Navy and took training in San Diego before going overseas where he was stationed in Saipan and Guam. While he was in Guam his brother, Bill, who was also in the Navy in the Pacific, tied up in Guam for a short period of time. They were able to spend some time together so far from home. He was discharged in December 1947 and then returned home to Minneapolis where he worked for Van Duren Harrington Co.

On August 28, 1948, he married Ruth Stoll at St John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. They continued living and working in Minneapolis until the spring of 1949 when they moved to Vesta, Minnesota and started farming. They lived there until 1966 when they moved to a farm south of Redwood Falls, Minnesota.

After retirement his favorite pastime was cutting down trees. It is fair to say he had the sharpest chainsaw blades in Redwood County. He also enjoyed John Wayne movies, but more than anything, Daryl enjoyed family gatherings in the summer and on holidays with 4th of July pontoon rides being a yearly highlight.

Daryl was cherished for his kind and fair approach to life, his timeless wisdom, his unique sense of humor, and his ability to quickly gather family together. He held true to a generation that valued family, personal responsibility, duty, honor, and faith. He will be dearly missed by many.

Daryl is survived by his children Cheryl (Scott) Schrader of Mounds View, MN, Deanna Wanzek (Jerry) of Redwood Falls, MN, Cynthia (Stan) Swierenga of Redwood Falls, MN, Julie (Allen) Jackson of Phoenix, AZ, Kristi (John) Reardon of Bloomington, MN, Mark ( Lisa) Nemitz of Redwood Falls, MN and Bruce (Lori) Nemitz of Clearwater, MN. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Todd and Shawn Raddatz, Nathan Wanzek, Elizabeth DesLauriers, Meghan Levine, Trevor Wittwer, Michelle Williams, Kylie and Brooke Reardon, Alicia Partch, Brielle and Gunnar Nemitz, 10 great grandchildren Andrew, Brian and Allison Raddatz, Baxter and Weston Wanzek, Cora and Frederique DesLauriers, Nora Levine, and Asher and Ezra Wittwer, 4 great-great grandchildren Henry and Roselyn Raddatz, Calvin and Piper Raddatz, brother Russell Nemitz (Judee) of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, sister in laws Sharon Stoll of Lavonia, Michigan and Marge Stoll of Burnsville, Minnesota.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ann Nemitz, brothers William Jr., Richard, Roger, Dale, sister Carol, infant son, Gaylon Nemitz, sons-in-laws James Wittwer and Fred Wanzek, and grandsons Chad Wanzek and Eric Raddatz.

Funeral services will be held at St John Ev. Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, MN. Arrangements are pending with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Services of Redwood Falls and Morgan. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com.
