Berniece “Bee” Ruth (Pettis) Barbier, the daughter of Mac and Lulu (Dahlsgaard) Pettis, was born February 9, 1922 in Redwood Falls. She grew up in Redwood Falls and received her formal education here. Bee graduated from Redwood Falls High School in1939. She resided in Redwood Falls until 1943.

On October 12, 1943, Berniece married Richard L. Barbier in Gallup, New Mexico. The couple lived in New Mexico for a year, then moved to Indiana. The family moved to Minnesota in 1950, then back to Indiana two years later. In 1955, they relocated to Los Angeles, California. Bee and Richard moved to Oceanside in 1989. Bee worked as a legal secretary in Los Angeles for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Church of Religious Science in Vista, California. Bee loved sewing, knitting, reading, music, and being with her children. She enjoyed pencil drawing and her travels throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Bee had a wonderful sense of humor and loved laughing. She, once, played hooky with her daughter during a school day; they went to the movies to see a Lucille Ball film. Bee laughed (at home) after being called into the principal’s office for her son’s antics. She was anti-establishment and lived her life accordingly. Bee was a very kind and giving woman; people loved being around her.

She is survived by her children Janet Sue Barbier of Lake Tahoe, California, Kathy Barbier of Los Angeles, and Richard C. Barbier of LaJolla, California; and her sisters Maxine Knudson of Redwood Falls, and Janet L. Cook of Sacramento, California. Bee was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Barbier in December 1992; her brother James Pettis; and her sister Marge Simondet.

Blessed be her memory.
