William "Bill" Salfer

William “Bill” Salfer, 57, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Redwood Area Hospital. Prayer services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with burial on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 12:45 p.m. in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 9 until 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

William “Bill” Salfer, the son of LeRoy and Mary Jane (Frericks) Salfer, was born on December 17, 1961 in Redwood Falls. He was raised in Wabasso. Bill joined the United States Navy where he traveled the world for over 21 years. Bill received many medals: Humanitarian Service Medal, NATO Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Antarctic Service Medal and many commendations and ribbons during his time in the Navy.

After he was honorable discharged, he came back to the area. Bill loved to golf, fish and traveling. He was a past member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Wabasso.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Mary Jane. He is survived by 2 brothers and 6 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
