William Benson, the son of John and Clara (Scherbeck) Benson, was born September 2, 1922 in Bismarck, North Dakota. Billy became a resident of Faribault (Minnesota) State Hospital in 1930. He moved to the brand-new Robert Milton Home, Redwood Falls, in 1967. When the facility became REM-South Central Services, Billy moved to their house on Elm Street. He and his house-mates later moved to a home on Lincoln Street for a few years and, in 1999, to Ramsey Street. Billy worked for Service Enterprises for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 88. He loved working in the pallet shop there.

Billy was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, People First, and Jesus Cares. He participated in Special Olympics and performed in the Korn Kob Korners Review for several years. Billy enjoyed playing his harmonica, going to the Senior Center for Bingo, and having coffee with his friends at the Calf Fiend Café. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and had attended a game just a few days before his death.

Billy is survived by his housemates Eugene Moelter and Don Lingbeek; close friend Clyde West; and many other friends.

Blessed be his memory.
