As his father was a career Navy man, Steve spent his younger years in several different cities, including San Diego, California; Waukeegan, Illinois; Boston, Massachusetts; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina; and New Hope, Minnesota. He attended Brooklyn Center High School. On July 23, 1968, Steve was inducted into the United States Army. Steve then followed in his father’s footsteps and served his country with the United States Navy.
