Severin "Si" Michael Bidinger

Severin “Si” Bidinger, 91, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011 from the Nelson-Martin Funeral Chapel in Redwood Falls. Private burial will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Morton. Visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2011, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Severin Michael Bidinger, the son of Clarence and Frances (Meyer) Bidinger, was born July 11, 1920 in Waite Park, Minnesota. He was raised in Morton and Redwood Falls and received his formal education at Morton Public School, graduating in 1938. Following graduation Si worked at a local hatchery as an egg candler. On July 22, 1942 Si was inducted into the United States Army; he entered active duty on August 5, 1942 and served his country as an automotive repairman with the 1837th Ordinance Company. His unit was part of the New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, and Southern Philippines Ryukyus campaigns. Si was honorably discharged on October 4, 1945, having earned the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

On August 4, 1942, Si married Agnes Miller at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton. When Si returned from military service in 1945, the couple resided in Morton. They moved to Bloomington for a short time and then, in 1954, settled in Redwood Falls where they raised their family. Si worked for Duncan Electric and Refrigeration then became a delivery and serviceman for Home Gas (which later became TexGas, then Lakes Gas). He retired from Lakes Gas in 1985.

Si was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls where he served as an usher. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

Si is survived by his daughters Sandra (Raoul) Bidinger Kunert of Fort Worth, Texas, and Elizabeth “Lisa” (Gary) Carlson of Houlton, Wisconsin; grandchildren Erin Carlson, Jon Kunert, and Michelle Kunert Arrington; and great-grandchildren Sophia, Samantha, and Caleb. Also surviving are his brothers R.J. (Doddie) Bidinger of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and Donald “Jody” Bidinger of Morton; and sister LaVin Bertrand of Montevideo. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes on January 18, 2007, son Michael in infancy, brother Urban Bidinger, and sister Elaine Stephany.
