Robert C. Whittet, the son of Hubert W. and Anna (Simpson) Whittet, was born August 25, 1919 in Redwood Falls Township, Redwood County. He was raised on the family farm in Redwood Falls Township and received his formal education in the nearby country school and at Redwood Falls High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1938. Bob farmed the family farm until 1941 when he was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during World War II with the 175th Field Artillery Battalion in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia and Naples. Bob was honorably discharged, with the rank of Sergeant, in 1945; he returned home to Redwood County.

On April 2, 1945, Bob married Grace Isabelle Stevenson at the home of her parents in Delhi Township. The couple settled on the Whittet family farm where, together, they farmed and raised their three children. Bob and Grace retired and moved into Redwood Falls in 1991.

Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls where he served as an usher and was a longstanding member of the MethAdults – the adult Sunday school group. Bob belonged to the Masonic Lodge; he was Past Master and served in most of the offices. His church and the Masons were both very important to him. Bob served as Redwood Falls Township Clerk for many years. Bob was a caring and loving man. He loved to farm and was a good steward of the land and his animals. Bob loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed working with wood, playing cribbage and cards, and going on fishing trips to Canada. He and Grace spent a number of winters in Arizona and also enjoyed trips to “the lake,” South Dakota, and Door County Wisconsin.

Bob is survived by his children Steven (Kathi) Whittet of Redwood Falls, Thomas Whittet and friend Linda Abraham of New Ulm, and Marcia (Douglas) Schiller of Clements; grandchildren Amy (Lee) Wright, Brian (Aurora) Whittet, Heidi (Matt) Fliss, Kathleen Whittet, Stephanie (Eric) Dietz, Grady (Shannon) Whittet, Kylie (Dane) Nielsen, Jon (Nicky) Schiller, and Nicole (Jeremy) Dove; and great-grandchildren Kyra, Austin, Emma, Collin, Bryn, Xavier, Henry, Devin, Shelby, Connor, Anja, Dustin, Soren, Charlie, Payton, Abigail, and Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, in 2003; and daughter-in-law, Marri Whittet, in 2010.

Blessed be his memory.
