Raymond Joseph George

May 18, 1930 — December 21, 2013

Raymond Joseph George was born May 18, 1930, on the farm of his parents, Elmer and Hattie (Axland) George, in Morgan Township. He attended country school through eighth grade, and was graduated from Morgan High School, where he played in the band and on the school's championship nine-man football team.

After graduation, he began farming with his parents and, with the exception of two years of service in the Army during the Korean War, lived on the family farm all his life. In his retirement, Ray was an avid collector of antiques, focusing on old farm and carpentry tools. He donated a substantial portion of his collection to the Gilfillan Museum, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, and numerous historical societies throughout southwestern Minnesota.

Ray died at the Sleepy Eye Care Center on December 21, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Violet Kempe-Story of Mora, Elaine Lindeval of Park Rapids, and Shirley Foster of Morgan.
