Minnie Anna Engholm

Minnie Engholm, age 97, of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. A public service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morgan. A public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday prior to the service. Burial will take place at Zion Eden Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Minnie Anna (Laube) Engholm was born on October 5, 1924 in Eden Township, Brown County to Carl and Anna (Guse) Laube. God called her home to Himself in Heaven on April 15, 2022, at the age of 97.

Minnie was baptized on December 7, 1924 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Township by Pastor Paul Horn. She grew up in Eden Township and attended District 34 country school, finishing her 8th grade education at the age of 12. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church on May 29, 1938 by Pastor H.A. Scherf. On September 16, 1942 she was married to Edwin W. Engholm at Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Eden Township. They became parents of three children, Gerald, Patsy, and Donna. They farmed for almost 10 years near Evan, then moved to Carlos, Minnesota in 1952 where they farmed for 11 years. Minnie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos. The family returned to the Sleepy Eye area in 1963 where they farmed northeast of Evan for 20 years. They retired from farming in 1982 moving to their home in Morgan. She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a long-time member of Zion’s Women’s Guild, serving on the board several times. She also did volunteer work at Treasure Haus in New Ulm for many years and was also a member of the Gil Mor auxiliary. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, and fishing with her husband, Ed. Her love and spiritual guidance was a gift to her children and grandchildren.

Minnie is survived by her three children; Gerald of Sleepy Eye, Patsy Eckstein (special friend Victor) of Sleepy Eye, and Donna Ritter of Mankato; grandchildren, Tim (Cindy) Eckstein of Avoca, MN, Cory (Stephanie) Eckstein of Sleepy Eye, Brian Engholm of Sleepy Eye, Lonny (Shelli) Engholm of Morgan, Nicole (Gil) Ritter Dewes of Mankato, Chad (Jessica) Ritter of Richmond, VA, and Jared (Angela) Ritter of Pilot Point, TX; and step grandson, Billy (Terri) Ritter of Hudson, WI. Also surviving her are 12 great grandchildren; Brandon, Emily, Courtney, Hope, Brittany, Colton, Tanner, Jonah, Morgan, Nicholas, Phoebe, and Samuel; step great grandchildren, Alexi, Heath, Josh, Patricia, Angie, Nikki, Eli and Dylan; one great great grandchild, Yara; nieces and nephews.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband Ed in March of 2010; her parents, Carl and Anna; sister, Olga (Delmar) Halvorson; brothers, Harold (Lucille) Laube, Walter in infancy, Edward and Elmer in World War II, Robert (Rose) Laube. Also preceding her was her much loved granddaughter Sherri, infant granddaughter, daughter-in-law Dianne Engholm, and son-in-law, Bill Ritter.
