Mervin Glenn Fevold

Mervin Fevold, 94, of Belview and formerly of Badger, Iowa died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011 from Badger Lutheran Church. Burial, with full military honors will be held in Blossom Hill Cemetery, rural Badger. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa and will continue at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.

Mervin Glenn Fevold, the son of Laureths J. and Mary (Johnson) Fevold, was born December 4, 1917 in Badger Township, Humboldt County, Iowa. He grew up on the farm in the Badger Township and received his formal education in the Badger school and Fort Dodge High School. Mervin served with the United States Army from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.

On November 29, 1941, Mervin married Doris McLuckie at Marysville, Missouri and the couple made their home on the farm in Badger Township. Mervin farmed, then worked as a service man with W&H Co-op until his retirement in 1979. He lived most of his life in the Badger area. A few years ago, Mervin and Doris moved to Parkview Home in Belview to be closer to their daughter.

Mervin was a member of Badger Lutheran Church all his life. There he served on numerous church boards and was the Luther League Advisor. Mervin was a member of Sons of Norway. He served as Mayor of Badger and on the city council. In his younger years, Mervin loved working with young people, woodworking, fishing and spending time at the lake.

Mervin is survived by his wife Doris of Belview; his daughter Shirley Pingel of Echo; grandchildren John (Dorothy) Pingel of Schleswig, Iowa, Jim Pingel of Belview, Jason (Jane) Pingel of Odebolt, Iowa, and Julie Pingel of Echo; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bert, Wilmer, Lawrence, and Earl; sisters Amy, Fern, and Pearl; and his son-in-law Jon Pingel.
