Mary Ellen (Regan) Allen, the daughter of James and Annie (Reardon) Regan, was born November 7, 1912 on the family homestead in Bandon Township, Renville County, Minnesota. She attended District #69 and then Franklin schools, and then the College of Saint Catherine’s, graduating in 1933.

On October 4, 1941, Mary Ellen married Francis Joseph Allen at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. Together, they farmed in Birch Couley Township for many years.

Mary Ellen loved her family, her church, and the community of Franklin. She was truly a public relations advocate for Catfish Days and anything else taking place in her hometown. Her efforts were evident in making both the Franklin Health Care Center and the Centennial Apartments a reality in her beloved Franklin. Mary Ellen was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed the camaraderie of years in both Civic Club and Birch Couley Birthday Club.

She served as a substitute teacher in many area schools. Mary Ellen was a member of the school board in Franklin for 21 years. She was involved with the Worship and Spiritual Life Committee and the CCW, as well as the workings of the New Ulm Diocesan Pastoral Council with Bishop Lucker.

In January 2006, she and Dad moved into Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls. After attending her 75th college reunion at her Saint Catherine’s, Mary Ellen moved to the Franklin Golden Living Center in July 2008. She was baptized, married, and now buried in her beloved Sacred Heart Church. Mary Ellen’s infectious, positive enthusiasm will surpass her 100 years of life.

She is survived by her four children: Sister Mary Frances Allen of St. Paul, Richard (Mary) Allen of Spicer, Jane (Mike) Sullivan of Franklin, and John (Julie) Allen of Marshall. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren: Megan Allen (husband Tom Venables), Ryan (Kristin) Allen, Tara (Corey) Prachar, Tim (Sarah) Sullivan, Molly (Tom) Lorang, Patrick (Jolynn) Sullivan, Joseph (April) Sullivan, Tim Allen, and Tom Allen (fiancé Bree Auringer); and 15 great-grandchildren: Whitney and Wyatt Allen; Caitessa and Serena Venables; Paige Prachar; Parker, Spencer, and Lydia Sullivan; Kaitlyn and Keegan Lorang; Samual, Emma, and Addison Sullivan; and Grace and Connor Sullivan.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Frank, and her sister Catherine “Babe.”

We love you Mom.
