Marcellinus "Marcy" Joesph Hammerschmidt

Marcellinus “Marcy” Hammerschmidt, 82, of Redwood Falls and formerly of Wabasso died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery, Wabasso. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue on Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to services.

Marcellinus Joseph Hammerschmidt, the son of George and Maria (Simon) Hammerschmidt, was born December 11, 1929 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County. He spent his early childhood on the farm; the family moved into Wabasso in 1936. Marcy attended St. Anne’s Parochial School in Wabasso. He was inducted into the United States Army on November 9, 1951 and served with the 512th Military Police Company during the Korean Conflict. Marcy was honorably discharged on October 27, 1953 and returned to Wabasso. He relocated to California in 1963 and returned to Minnesota in 1970. Marcy was employed by Honeywell Corporation in Hopkins for 15 years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Redwood Falls.

Marcy enjoyed playing golf and going bowling. He loved to play cards and was a very sharp pool player. Marcy was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.

He is survived by his siblings Bert Hammerschmidt of New Ulm, Leah Dolezal of Redwood Falls, Melvin (Lorraine) Hammerschmidt of Lamberton, Elaine (Norman) Rudenick of Redwood Falls, and Reynold “Swede” Hammerschmidt of Redwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
