Gleen Henry Hopfenspirger

Glenn Hopfenspirger, 96, of Redwood Falls died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 from St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.

Glenn Henry Hopfenspirger, the son of Henry and Lena (Fixsen) Hopfenspirger, was born December 17, 1915 in Morgan. Glenn received his elementary education in St. Michael’s Catholic School in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School in 1934. He then attended the Minnesota School of Business, graduating in 1936.
On May 23, 1941, Glenn married Celestine (Sally) Gallagher at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. The couple resided in Minneapolis for a short time and then moved to Detroit, Michigan where they were both employed. Glenn served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. After his honorable discharge, he was employed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1949, the Hopfenspirgers moved to Redwood Falls where Glenn purchased the A&W Drive-In. He sold the A&W in 1958 and purchased the Lippy Building in Redwood Falls where he and Sally opened The Fashion Shoppe – a ladies’ and children’s clothing store. At that time, Glenn joined the Farmers Insurance Group. He retired in 1984.
Glenn was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a long-time member of the local American Legion and V.F.W. posts.
Glenn is survived by his children Mary (William) Winter of Mound; and James (Toni) Hopfenspirger of Rochester; grandchildren Lissa (Damion) Remsberg of San Marcos, California, Dr. Michael (Elizabeth) Hopfenspirger of Greenwood, Erin Hopfenspirger of Scottsdale, Arizona, Tiffany Winter of Orono, and Robin (Elli) Winter of Burmingham, England; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sally, two sisters, and one brother.
