Dolores Marie Radel

Dolores Radel, 88, of Redwood Falls and formerly of rural Wanda, was called home to her Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 while a resident at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Township (near Wanda) with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 2, 2011, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services.

The family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Township.

Dolores Marie Steinhaus Radel, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Menk) Steinhaus, was born in New Ulm on December 23, 1922. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm and re-confirmed her faith in the Rite of Confirmation on May 24, 1936, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morgan. She spent her youth in the Morgan area, receiving her elementary education at Redwood County District 47 and District 100 schools and her secondary education at Redwood Falls High School.

Raymond Radel and Dolores Steinhaus were united in marriage on June 18, 1940, at Morgan and were blessed to have celebrated 42 years of marriage prior to Ray’s death. After their marriage, they resided on a farm near Clements for two years. They subsequently purchased, and moved to, a farm in Willow Lake Township three miles east of Wanda. They retired from farming in 1975 but continued to live on the farmstead until Ray’s death on December 14, 1982. Dolores remained on the farm until 1988, when she relocated to Redwood Falls.

Dolores was an active member of Willow Lake Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 12 years. She was known to all as a devoted wife and mother, an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter, homemaker and legendary for her outstanding sour cream sugar cookies, potato salad, and bread pudding. She and Ray enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing cards, fishing, dancing, and traveling.

Dolores is survived by her children Roger (Sandy) Radel of Spicer, Dale Radel of Paynesville, Curtis (Mary) Radel of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Charles (Bonnie) Radel of Jeffers, Helen (Donald) Lange of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Beverly (Harry) Taylor of Palisades, Idaho; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and her sister Lorraine Schneider of Arvada, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, four sisters, a daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.

Dolores’ walk in faith sustained and comforted her throughout life’s journey. She touched many lives in a very special way. She leaves a legacy of love, steadfast faith in God, devotion to family, and the joy of her life for all to cherish and share with their families.
