Arlene Mae Davidson, the daughter of William and Minnie (Paape) Bluhm, was born August 22, 1922 in Fairfax. She spent her youngest years in the Fairfax and Morgan areas, then moved to Milroy with her family. Arlene received her elementary school education in Milroy Public School, then attended Redwood Falls High School where she graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1940.

On September 17, 1944, Arlene married Aldon T. Davidson at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Fort Sill, Oklahoma for a time, then moved to Belview, later Franklin, before settling in Redwood Falls. Arlene was employed at the Franklin Nursing Home before she purchased and operated the Mint Café in downtown Redwood Falls. She then began her employment as a secretary at Redwood Falls High School. Arlene retired from the school in 1994, after 21 years on the job.

Arlene was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls where she belonged to the Altar Guild, the church’s Women’s Society, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was an organist and accompanist while a member at both Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Belview and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Franklin. Arlene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Belview where she served as president. She enjoyed reading, study club, going on bus trips to plays, and doing crossword puzzles. Arlene loved spending time with her family and friends and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Even though of German descent, Arlene was the lutefisk chef at family Christmas gatherings.

Arlene was one of Redwood Valley High School’s original Red Hat Ladies – a group of women who became local legends in their support of Redwood Valley Cardinal activities.

Arlene is survived by her children Steven (Sue) Davidson of Alexandria, Nancy Schmidt of Carlos, David Davidson of Prior Lake, and Jon (Sue) Davidson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Heidi Ducato, Corey Schmidt, Jeremy Schmidt, Ashley Davidson, Travis Davidson, and Shelly Soltis; step-grandson Chad Wegner; great-grandson Hudson Soltis; step-great-grandchildren Nicholas Ducato, Armin and Edric Wegner; and her sister Barb Henry of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
