She attended rural Dist. #83 Redwood County School and went on to graduate from Morgan High School. Her advanced education for x-ray technology was completed at Northwestern University School of Technology. She was united in marriage to Darvin Wayne Petersen on June 27, 1954 at Bethany Lutheran Church, where both she and Darvin had been baptized and confirmed as children. During her life, she worked as a Medical Technician for DeTar Hospital in Victoria, Texas, Houston Medical Clinic in Houston, Texas, and for Redwood Clinic in Redwood Falls. She also worked as a Technical Assistant and a part-time teacher in the biology labs at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. For much of her adult life, she was a full-time devoted wife and mother of five. She took pleasure in creating and collecting porcelain dolls, and making doll houses for her grandchildren. She derived some of her greatest joy from her flower and vegetable gardening. Much of her spiritual strength came from serving on numerous church councils, teaching Sunday school, doing foreign mission work in Ghana and serving as a Deacon. She loved music, played the piano, and sang in church choirs and with the Sweet Adeline Barbershop Chorus. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Dwight and Yimei, Dan and Kathy, Diana and Jim, Doug and Lisa, Deb and Bill; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister Ellen; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Darvin; her parents John and Dora; her sister Marie and her brother Ray.
