Adeline "Addie" Marguerite Berkner

Adeline “Addie” (George) Berkner, 98, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Season’s hospice in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.

Adeline Marguerite Berkner, the daughter of Charles Joseph “C.J.” and Alma (Anderson) Larson, was born March 6, 1915 in Minneapolis. She grew up in Minneapolis and received her formal education there.

In 1937, Addie married Robert George. They made their home in Minneapolis where their three children were born. The family moved to Redwood Falls in 1948. Robert died in 1964. Addie married Stan Schewe in 1967 and moved to his home in Sleepy Eye. Stan passed away in 1980; six years later, Addie married Cecil Berkner. They made their home in Sleepy Eye until Cecil’s death in 1996. Following Cecil’s death, Addie moved back to Redwood Falls and resided at the Homestead condos.

Addie was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church; she enjoyed participating in Bible study and ladies’ circle. In her younger years, Addie enjoyed golfing. Her children fondly recall the smorgasbord of Scandinavian goodies that came from Addie’s kitchen. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by her children Sharon Olson of Burnsville, Tom (Mazie) George of Walker, and Steve (Donna) George of Coon Rapids; Sharon’s children – Loralee and Kara, Tom and Mazie’s children – Deanne, Cheryl and Robert, and Steve and Donna’s children – Heather, Mike and Matt; Addie’s special Schewe grandchildren Chris, Candy, Cathy and Casey; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Addie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.
