Ruth Mahoney, 89, of Redwood Falls died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Season’s hospice in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Per Ruth’s wishes, no other services will be held.
The family prefers memorials be directed to Duke Memorial Redwood Area Animal Shelter, Redwood County Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Ruth Marie Mahoney, the daughter of Seth and Esther (Reim) Church, was born May 14, 1928 in New Ulm. She grew up in New Ulm and received her formal education there, graduating from New Ulm High School in 1946. Ruth then attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter for a year.
On September 22, 1948, Ruth married William Mahoney in New Ulm and they made their home in Redwood Falls. Ruth’s family was first and foremost in her life. She also enjoyed reading, her coffee group and visiting. Ruth was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra (Michael) Sontag of Mankato, Terri (Dannie) Peterson of Mankato, Lorri (Tim) Zieske of Sacred Heart, and Patricia (Kelly) Wells of Rosemount; grandchildren Elliot, Aaron and Griffin Zieske, and Omni Kiecker; great-grandchildren Miah and Rylie Zieske, Zachary, Maxwell, and Gwendolyn Kiecker; and sister-in-law Mary Schnell of Willmar.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband William in 2008, and her sister Patricia.
