Bernard Schultz, 102, of Morton died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016 from Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton with burial to follow in Morton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016, from 4 until 8 p.m., at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue on Friday at the church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Bernard Alfred Schultz, the son of Otto and Clara (Kropp) Schultz, was born December 31, 1913. He grew up in the Sanborn and Morton areas and received his formal education in Morton Public School.

On September 23, 1945, Bernard married Gloria Holmgren and they made their home in Morton. They lived on the Neitzel Farm before retiring to Morton. Bernard was a farm hand for Charles Neitzel for over 50 years, retiring in 1988. He continued working part-time until 2001. Bernard was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton where he served as an Elder, treasurer and on the stewardship committee. In his spare time, he loved to garden, fish and camp. Bernard loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

He is survived by his children Ronald Schultz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Carol Cooter (special friend Darryl Kelley) of Paris, Tennessee, Dennis Schultz of Morgan, Bonny (Dave) Smith of Redwood Falls, Nancy (Kim) Steen of Tigard, Oregon, Sandy (Bryan) Isaacson of Dassel, David Schultz (special friend Connie Peters) of Morton, and Jerry Schultz of Belle Plaine. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers Clarence Schultz of Lake Crystal, and Lloyd Schultz of Bird Island.

Bernard was preceded in death by his wife Gloria on July 3, 2009; parents Otto and Clara Schultz; sisters Virginia Haas and Mildred Olesen; granddaughter Jamie Sawatzky; and grandson Dustin Schultz.
